sara bigaKarma? As a Buddhist and as an Italian that seems more like Dante's idea of 'contrappasso' (retaliation) to me... I mean, it's like asking someone: "Do you believe in gravity?" and then pushing him down a cliff! (Anyway I'm sure that Tambi's idea of karma couldn't be different - and it makes a great line! :D ) Karma is exactly what Terry depicts in every issue, that is, everything we do in our life has consequences - like it or not. That's one of the reasons this comic is so beautiful: it deals with what we usually have to learn to our cost, and with so much pain... Thank you again, Terry!
I only started reading SiP a week or so ago (got the whole run) and I must say it is amazing. (had to put this in sorry!)
ok this issue... imho a perfect end to a great story arc... it's great to see Francine in the line of fire (not because she was threatened) because it ties her even more to Katchoo. Before Francine knew bits and pieces about Katchoo's life and now she is really involved. No more secrets.
I want to pick up something Danielle said below (if I may... first time user here so bare with me)... I don't think Francine will be more drawn to David because she knows more about Katchoo's past. She did cling to him in the car but I think (hope?) that that was just because he was sitting there.. ok so that doesn't sound to convincing. I think it will take some time for her to digest the whole situation but I think that Francine and Katchoo are... committed (for the lack of a better term) to each other that I don't think they'll grow apart... or at least I hope so. Anyhow I just love this series and I really enjoyed this issue.. hee hee Veronica got her butt kicked. Terry you're the man!! Brilliant absolutely brilliant! see you at APE.
Long-Winded Warning...
About a year ago, a friend was kind enough to loan me I DREAM OF YOU. It was a great read, but the story was very complex, with a great deal of back history. I never followed through.
Flash forward to one week ago. I'm in my favorite comic book store, and SIP 37 catches my eye. I pick it up and start reading and I'm struck by the similarities to elements in IDOY. I put the book down (reading in the store is a guilty pleasure) because I realized I had walked into an exciting part of the store, and I would ruin it for myself if I didn't turn back.
I walked around looking at the other books, when it occured to me that I'd turned a corner somewhere. Nothing was going to entertain me until I knew what had happened to Francine. Terry Moore had finally hooked me! I left the store with the 6th and 7th trade paperbacks and a armful of back issues.
Over the past week, I've bought all of the trade paperbacks and read the entire series from beginning to end. I'm now a lifelong fan, and this issue played a large part in why I'm a fan, and the encounter with Darcy in IDOY.
Walking backward into the story as I got each new TPB, I was amazed by how many small, subtle things in the greater story made it into 37. I was a bit skeptical of the Darcy impersonation Katchoo did, until I read Immortal Enemies. The more I read, the more I appreciated this story.
So, for what it's worth-- I loved 37. And I'm buying a thank you card for the friend who loaned me IDOY.
37 was a great conclusion to a great story line. Disguising Katchoo as Darcy was a great touch, I would have never thought she looked anything like her.
I felt horrible for Francine though. Torturing her was so unwarrented. It was great to see Veronica get hers at the end though. Heh heh heh.
I just hope every body (katchoo, francine, and david) can stay together for a while now and have at least a little stratch of good times. They deserve it!
WHOA!! Francine obviously hates Katchoo's new "Darcy" look... or was it hearing the ugly truth that made her cling to David? But I did love the whole family reunion you set up Terry- it was nice to see Mary Beth and Kat make up. However it's clear that I'm going to have to pick up a copy of the "Sanctuary" TPB if I'm going to understand all of the end.... Thanks for another great story! See you in 6... no, wait.. 5 weeks. :-)
Every six weeks Terry moore proofs that he is indeed one heck of a comic artist.
I did't expect the outcome....
Good work !
i'm really pleased with the way you ended this story arc. it tied up a lot of loose ends and left room for new subplots in the future. i'm very interested in the seeing what will develop out of these events. now for one question? are all these events still happening in the past being seen in retospect by a middleaged francine? i really believe you should address that because its almost as if any cliffhanger ending is irrelevent if you know they are ok ten years in the future.
Great one, Ter! Funny observation above about Francine and chairs. I'd like to tie her to one now, and I in no way mean that in a sexual connotation! A gag might suffice. I loved getting to see the inside of Veronica's sick little mind. Well, now that you've got us all back togther, can we have a little FUN, please? Some humor will go a loooong way now. You're the best, Terry. Love, Katchoo
er, well since the issue is mainly about ending the arc, its kinda difficult fr me to say something about it. but yah, it will be great to get back to the issue of inter personal relationships because that is one thing that this book was wonderful at providing a unique look into. because as exciting and heartwrenching the plot twists have been it was beginning to get repetitive. "how's he gonna eff em up now?". the point where the plane crash happened was an emotional disaster that i dont think could be replicated. i think its gonna be fun to get back into the world of french toast kisses and awkwardness. and judging from the look of Katchoo as they drove away, theres gonna be some great amounts of relationship rejiggering. ok, since i'm rambling and not reviewing the issue (great writing and artwork as usual!!!) i'll stop. peace.
This is my first letter so it's going to cover a lot of ground. Now would be a good time to use the bathroom. I would like to preface my comments by saying that I own the first five SIP collections. The stories are inventive and fresh. My favorite moment is still when Katchoo tries to kiss Francine and then cover up the overture. It is first of many scenes that are poignant because they are so authentic. Unfortunately it seems a lot of that authenticity has faded and been replaced by plot contrivances that are just strange. It started with Katchoo's farewell to David in the hospital after the plane crash. It was a very touching scene; it was just in the wrong movie. The great thing about their meeting was that David broke through Katchoo's tough exterior with a stupid joke. Now it turns out she knew him all along? Then why was she so surprised he "betrayed" her? What did he lie about? Now David is a super ninja assassin? Why didn't he do anything at other points in the story when Katchoo and Francine were threatened? I liked him because he was just a guy trying to do the right thing all the time. I enjoy a good male power fantasy as much as the next man does, but there's plenty of that to choose from. There was only one character that came from a bad place that was heroic just because of his faith. It turns out Emma wasn't one of the numberless victims of accidental AIDS transmission through drug use whose stories are never told, she was murdered as part of a conspiracy; too bad. Tambi isn't just a fascinating character with layers upon layers of motivations, she's Katchoo's sister. Why? We did the Francine-tied-up-shots-ring-out thing and it was better last time. Not that other comics don't have resident victims, angst filled tough guys and plots that circle for months looking for a place to land, but that's my point. You're a better writer than that. What I loved about SIP was the fascinating, well-developed, female characters. I also was intrigued by the prospect of a lesbian romance that was not going to play to the puerile. Now Katchoo's not really a lesbian, David's a super hero, everything is tied together and none of it seems to make a lot of sense and I feel like I fell asleep somewhere along the line and woke up in a different book. You really are a great writer. I hope that from now on you'll decide to write just one story at a time.
good issue and all. but gawd. i dont like how it looks to be going. cuz it looks to me that francine isnt wantign anything to do with katchoo. i mean she's bieng comforted by david at the end, not katchoo. and the looks on everyone's faces is just.... its all bad. bring them back together, scrap david, brad, and his brother. and put katchoo and francie together. pleeeez. ok, im done.
I hadn't read sip (the comic) for a while but as soon as i saw this issue i was at the till in the blink of an eye i found this issue very informative and it was great to read until i read the sip mail section all was fine till i got to steven clubb's letter. Sure people's oppinions are a good thing! how else are we supposed to improve but there was no need to be so rude about it! as well as criasizing your work he's also offending those who enjoy your great work.if he want's a more exciting comic go read superman if he want's a less exciting story go write an autobiography but there was no need for his rudness.
I'm sorry, I live in Europe/Germany and I'm longing for the last two copies to be published here. The last one to be published was before "Immortal enemies". It' about time to change that. C.U. Nicholas
I thought that the current issue shed some light on the current story arc and gave us readers a hint of what is to come. Katchoo and Tambi taking on the Five and Katchoo fulfilling her destiny of becoming Darcy Parker, the women she hated the most. The torture scene at the end was really disturbing, even though we didn't see anything especiallyu as she had just been fleshed out before losing every finger. Anyway, keep up the great work
The first time Francine was kidnapped and tied to a chair I thought, "Does anyone really do that? I mean, tying someone to a chair!" So imagine my disappointment with this arc, seeing Francine tied to a chair AGAIN.
I'm a loyal fan and all, but if I ever see Francine even in the same room with a rope and a chair, I think I may lose my mind.
Moving on...The door has been opened for a major rift between Katchoo and Francine. The look on Francie's face as Veronica was telling her about Katchoo's past seemed to indicate that she's had about all she can take of the secrets and intrigue. Did I detect...disgust? Perhaps I'm just reading too much into it.
Hi Terry - and well u got worse i think! i am a big fan of SIP right from the start and it really touched my heart when I saw my favourite characters run through depressed moods, love and anger but by now it got too trashy for me, not just the fact how unnecessary Kats change to a Darcy double appeared to me but I am sure u missed ur aim twice to explain why the two girls departed for 10 years for I thought that both ideas, the painting career and also the plane crash worked pretty well! So one more happy end here and the bad guys like Veronica need to die and Tambi gets her bloody fan art eyes again and does the buzz and all live happily everafter! I miss the fun here, the optimistic look in the future and the way the girls used to live without those daily soap cliffhangers! One of my favourite ends were in Love me tender with Francine yelling as Elvis on the doorstep! No need for blood, hate and plane crashes! And I am also sure u are not sure about that Tambi/Bambi crap either for it was definetely Tambi watching at the 3 pics hangin in her gym room and whats so bad about confessing that u have no idea at all how u might get out of all this crap logically? Well even as my english is bad and I am german I still know what a goodstoryline is and urs used to be, but by now its more about selling issues isn't it? Ur art got more and more worser from issue to issue, the proportions do not fit, the faces size change (remember a face is as big as ur hand!) and what about the background? Are u bored already to draw ur panels? To me it really seems so, u might better stop before u loose ur important status in the world of comics or make up ur mind with logic details and storylines that make awful critic people like me enjoy ur stuff for I really used to love it and whats going on by now seems to be outta space and less about friendship and reflections of ourselves- the neurotic readers! :)) Don't hate me for it but I really feel better now and I am used to think loud too!
Re: Issue #37. Yay no prose section, no song lyrics and some resolutions at last. The prolonged Veronica scene spoke tons for her fragility and motivations and it was intriguing to see Becky having to sit through the "torture" scene with her finger on the trigger, so to speak. David and Katchoos unspoken glances in the final scene spoke much for their relationship too. One that has grown beyond words. Both knew that Francine was the one who needed their attention and both made sure she got it. Good work Terry. Next ish's cover looks very "grubby" too. (Show me the money!)

A great ending to a great story. Katchoo's thoughts at the end of the issue were very fitting. I'm glad the door has been left open for Tambi to return (although, I hope she doesn't get overly nice). Overall, very powerfully written.
Well, I am so glad Francine is safe although it sucks that Katchoo's hair had to suffer... and a sexual relationship with Veronica...WHAT? That's pretty sketchy. I want to know more about Francine and Katchoos reunion... I need their quirky relationship again! I miss 'em together.
I've read these for a while, and decided to join in just now *l*.
I work in a comic store as an assitant manager and i came in this Wednesay *just* to pick up your book and one other even though it was my day off before i left for Christmas vacation (which is where i am while I'm writing this. Christmas eve of all days, too. *laughs* That's dedication right?)
Well, I LOVED it. I loved Mary Beth/Tambi's unfolding story and the 'Cinderella' nickname fitting in so well with it as the position Katchoo holds.
The "You're welcome....sis" and "What are you doing for Christmas?" both ctruck a chord in me that blossomed to something i think will be come a new attachment of like even Tambi in it's way.
As for Francie who i adore as much as Katchoo, and a little above adorable David....my heart goes out to her completely. She's been tortured by the pictures of Katchoo from her file in past books, and now by Rachel's own renditions. She's also like someone else said an accessory to murder. How will she react to her best friend and soul mate because of all of this now?
Terry you've had me hooked since the very day I picked up the first edition prints of Volume One in my store i was told not to handle....the first time I saw Katchoo and Fraince agasint the wall talking, and you've had my heart and full devotion ever since. (So much so I've convinced more than a dozen of my stores subs to pick up it to)
You've done wonders and I can't wait to see just how much more we haven't seen yet.
Love & Thanks, Merry Christmas, Manda
hi
wow, great little action bit to wind the story up. i found it (creepily) interesting to hear one person's perspective on katchoo's early life in the parker clan, as distorted by madness as those memories might be. though a dye job in the winter cold sounds a little difficult, the use of the earlier "you remind me of her" from the senator's wife to katchoo was clever, and i like tambi more and more now that i know her "evil" twin persona is gone for good...a-la x-men "how do we know it's you?" "you're a..." great work.. anitra
Well, I'm glad that's over.
Nothing personal, Terry. I enjoy your comic for the most part. The art is always professional and intriguing. The dialogue is extremely natural. The combination of words and sequential images is really quite stunning.
I simply am not enjoying the more violent and mafia oriented sections of this story as I do the more mundane areas. I understand that it is necessary to tell this portion in order to continue your story, so I am not complaining. I am with you for the long haul, Terry. I am not a fair weather fan. I just can't wait until the excitement is more from your deft characterizations rather than the hard-hitting action.
I hope that you understand.
sincerely,
Owen Marshall
Yeah, I got to agree, Katchoo must have been apprenticed to David Copperfield (the magician, not the Dickens character) to have managed such a "quick-change". That, however, is my only complaint. Francine's torture and the reconcilliation between Tambi and Katchoo was great!
Well, Katchoo was really fast. She dyed her hair, stuck on a beauty mark, and slipped on a miniskirt in the snow. So Emma and Marshall are avenged. But if we are talking about consequences, do you realize that Francine is an accessory to murder? Can she handle it? Are Tambi and Becky comfortable with it? Hell, can I handle it? One thing is sure: Francine doesn't like Katchoo's new look.
