Name: Frederick Angus Femur "Freddie" Story: Freddie grew up a scowling, whining troublemaker because his father was a bully who mentally abused both Freddie and his mother. Now an attorney with a collection of carefully assembled status symbols, the Porsche, the prestigious townhouse and the elite city club membership, Freddie feigns a persona of the assertive, self-made man that collapses when tested. His resulting failures with women have heightened his distrust and dislike of them, making his underlying manner coarse and abusive, which Francine associates as the type of paternal affection she once lost and needs to win back, resulting in, as Katchoo once called it, their "pathetic dating ritual". Freddie broke up with Francine at the beginning of the SIP story, causing her to suffer a nervous breakdown and strip naked in the city park, which was odd because the reason Freddie broke up with Francine was because she wouldn't have sex with him, even though they had been dating for a year. In Freddie's eyes it was all very logical, "I've been trying to tell you people, the chick has a dark side. Believe me, I know!" he said recently. Whatever the reason, Francine's suffering fueled Katchoo's anger and almost cost Freddie his manhood! (see The Collected SIP, Vol. One). Freddie's most outstanding trait is his personality: gruff, inconsiderate, selfish, sarcastic, thoughtless, hedonistic, conniving... sure, he has a lot going for him, but somehow Freddie always seems to be part of the group, because despite his bark, Freddie's actually harmless. Freddie is never a physical threat, he tends to be more like the heckler in the balcony, an annoying source of bickering and criticism that keeps an edge on things. |
